CEO: Rosatom to deliver nuclear fuel for Akkuyu in Mar–May
MOSCOW, Mar 1 (PRIME) -- Russian state nuclear power corporation Rosatom still plans to comply with the obligation to deliver nuclear fuel for the first reactor of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant in Turkey in March–May, Rosatom said in a statement late on Tuesday quoting CEO Alexei Likhachyov.
Likhachyov visited the Akkuyu construction site and met with Turkey’s Energy and Natural Resources Minister Fatih Donmez.
“All Rosatom’s obligations remain in force, and fresh nuclear fuel will be delivered to the plant this spring. After that the Akkuyu site will get the status of a nuclear power facility. It will be the most important event for the world’s nuclear power industry,” he said as quoted by the company.
The company plans to finish construction and launch start-up works in July–September, and test equipment and fuel in the reactor in the next few months, he added.
The Akkuyu plant is to have four Russia’s VVER-1,200 nuclear power reactors to produce around 35 billion kilowatt-hours per year with all the four reactors covering up to 10% of Turkey’s demand in power.
